Maddison Clonan
Maddison is a passionate research scientist with the Department of Primary Industry and Resources (DPIR) in the Northern Territory (NT). Her work is currently focused on the development of mango export supply chains and climate change adaptation in both Northern Territory and Southeast Asian production systems. She received a Crawford Fund travel scholarship in 2017 and has since worked within ACIAR projects in Asia. In 2019, Maddison has excellent networking skills and proactively develops partnerships, representing the NT sector of RAID (Researchers in Agriculture for International Development) and forming partnerships with a range of research, student and industry organisations. Within her career, Maddison seeks to improve the sustainability of agricultural practices in Australian and in developing nations, addressing issues of climate change adaption, efficient resource use, food security, environmental conservation and sustainable livelihoods.
Maddison has a strong passion for empowering youth, especially in rural and remote communities. She plays an active role in the NT Young Farmers group, is the NT representative for RAID and has developed a Young Leaders group within the DPIR. Maddison supplements her professional work with volunteering with both Red Cross programs, Youth in Detention Activities (YIDA) and Register of Appropriate Support Persons (RASP). In 2019 she was awarded the Chief Minister's Youth Volunteer of the Year Award for her volunteering role with the Red Cross.
Maddison holds a Bachelor of Environmental Science (Flinders University) and a Masters of Sustainable Agriculture (Charles Sturt University).
